Karen McColman is the Litigation Paralegal with O’Leary Associates. Karen has worked in the field of criminal justice for over 15 years. She began her career as a Victim Advocate/ Investigator for the Athens-Clarke County Solicitor’s Office, in Athens, Georgia. In 1994, Karen joined the Athens-Clarke County District Attorney’s Office as a Victim Advocate and later Victim Services Director. Following the Atlanta Olympic games, Karen accepted a position as the Victims of Terrorism Awareness Coordinator with the Georgia Emergency Management Agency-Office of the Governor. In 1998, Karen was appointed to the position of State School Safety Director with the Georgia Emergency Management Agency. Karen served under Governors Zell Miller and Roy Barnes in this position. Karen has presented to local, state and federal agencies on the issues of emergency management planning and victim services. She has worked actively in the areas of legislation and program development. She has won numerous state and national awards for her efforts on behalf of her work in the fields of victim services and emergency management. Karen relocated to South Carolina in early 2001 and has worked with O’Leary Associates since that time. Karen believes that we must always keep the client’s best interests and needs at the heart of our decisions in the litigation process. Karen works closely with our clients to ensure that they understand the litigation process and that they have an advocate for their needs and rights.
